Vivo: Chinese smartphone company sets up production unit in Pakistan

 

Vivo, a Chine mobile manufacturing company, has set up a production plant in Pakistan.

Abdul Razaq Dawood, in a series of tweets, congratulated Vivo, mentioning that this development will not only create job opportunities but also make smartphones more accessible to people across the country at lower costs.

“I congratulate Vivo Pakistan Mobile on setting up a production unit in Pakistan, which is its first in Pakistan. This is a vindication of the Mobile smartphone production Policy formulated under the “Make in Pakistan” philosophy’’ he said.

Dawood posted another tweet saying that the next step after manufacturing will be to export smartphones, which will likely begin next month.

Last year Vivo announced that it will set up the manufacturing plant in Pakistan.

Earlier this week, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) authorization to Lucky Motor Corporation Limited to manufacture Samsung-branded phones in the country.

“The company had applied for authorization to set up a mobile device manufacturing plant in Karachi, Pakistan where it will manufacture Samsung brand mobile devices,” said the PTA.

PTA said that this is the start of development in Pakistan and “will further revolutionize the vibrant mobile manufacturing ecosystem in the country by ensuring the presence of major local and foreign players in the market”.

Just last month, another Chinese smartphone manufacturing company, Xiaomi, also announced to set up a production facility in Pakistan in the coming 3-4 months.

Another Chinese smartphone manufacturing company, Realme, also announced that it will set up a production facility in Lahore.

The young generation in Pakistan has been the center of attraction for mobile manufacturers.

The push to set up production facilities in Pakistan is due to the high import and regulatory duties as the authorities look to encourage a ‘Make in Pakistan’ approach.
