Shafqat Mahmood Makes a Big Announcement on Matric and Inter Exams |
Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has said that the matriculation and intermediate examinations will be taken twice a year due to the current COVID-19 situation.
While talking about the important decisions made during the 32nd Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) on Twitter, the minister said that the matric exams will be conducted in May and June and intermediate exams in October/November.

However, O and A Level exams would be held as per the schedule, and the new academic session will start from 22 August.
From the next academic year, education boards will make sure that the complete syllabus for all classes is covered by April or May so that exams could be set from the entire syllabus.
Besides, the IPEMC also decided to pass all students who appeared in matric and intermediate exams this year.
In the IPEMC it was also decided that to calculate numbers in compulsory subjects the average of elective subjects will be taken. However to facilitate students all those who fail in any subject will be given 33% marks to for the purpose of computing averages.

The minister said that students who failed their SSC or HSSC part-II exams will be given 33 percent marks, the standard passing threshold to be promoted to the next class.
“In the IPEMC it was also decided that to calculate numbers in compulsory subjects the average of elective subjects will be taken,” he added.
Shafqat Mahmood added that the universities have also been directed to open admissions twice a year to accommodate students during the pandemic. As for their exams, universities will be allowed to set their own exam schedule.
