LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi presided over the 6th provincial cabinet meeting at CM Office here on Friday in which special prayer was offered for the martyrs of APS Peshawar and rich tributes were paid to the great sacrifice of the martyrs.

The Punjab cabinet has approved an underground mass transit system for Lahore, according to a report in The Express Tribune. The system, which is expected to cost around Rs180 billion, will be developed in phases and is expected to be completed by 2025. The first phase of the project will see the construction of a 23-kilometre long tunnel from Samanabad to Thokar Niaz Baig, with eight stations along the route. The second phase will extend the tunnel to Shahdara, while the third and final phase will see the construction of a further 8-kilometre tunnel from Thokar Niaz Baig to Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. The project is expected to relieve pressure on Lahore’s existing transport infrastructure and reduce travel times between different parts of the city.

What is the cost of the project?

The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 1,180 crore. The government has earmarked Rs. 500 crore for the project and the remaining amount will be raised through a loan from the World Bank.

When will the project be completed?

The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

How will the project benefit the people of Lahore?

The Punjab cabinet has approved an underground mass transit system for Lahore. The project is expected to cost Rs27 billion and will be completed in three years.

The project will benefit the people of Lahore in a number of ways. Firstly, it will provide a much-needed relief from the city's notorious traffic congestion. Secondly, it will create thousands of jobs during its construction and operation. Thirdly, it will boost the city's economy by providing a faster and more efficient way to move people and goods around.

Different types of mass transit systems?

There are a variety of mass transit systems in use around the world, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

The most common type of mass transit is the bus system, which can be either privately or publicly owned. Bus systems are typically the least expensive to operate and maintain, but can be subject to traffic congestion.

Another common type of mass transit is the rail system, which can include subways, light-rail, and commuter trains. Rail systems can be expensive to build and maintain, but offer a more reliable and efficient service than bus systems.

Yet another option for mass transit is the tram or streetcar system. These systems are similar to rail systems in terms of infrastructure, but typically have lower operating costs. Tram and streetcar systems also offer a more intimate experience than either bus or rail systems.
